Windows Vista Updates
Mood:  cheeky
Topic: Vista Updates
I recently updated my Windows Vista Home Premium that I installed 2 years and 7 months ago on my My Pentium 4, 2Gb CPU, 1024Mb laptop. It took a while to update it; because, It need 16 updates, and one more update; then, it needed 14 updates, and than one more update. I used the Vista Back up, to update the back up disk; and the back up disk modifications all where in restore file of the back up disk, since my last update Vista update. The Windows Vista on my computer is still using MSIE 7 Beta, but now there is a new MSIE 8 Web browser. So; I'll proably keep the MSIE 7 Beta Web browser, until I have to visit a website that requires MSIE 8 for their website. Since, I installed Windows Vista it has had around 102 updates; altogether. I used to have 17.2GB of freespace once, but now have 10.2GB of freespace of 37.5GB still left on the hard drive; so, maybe I'll start updating it as little as possible when it needs more updates.

Windows Vista and Windows 7
Mood:  happy
Topic: Vista and Windows 7
Windows Vista and Windows 7 both use the same CPU, RAM, and HD requirements. The Windows Vista that I upgraded from a Windows XP Computer is still working good; since I had it installed it on a brand new Hard Drive; that I needed to use for it, a year ago. The Windows Vista only had limited use for some of the Windows Vista Multimedia features on the Pentium 3, laptop computer I used; because, I needed a better Video Driver. So, I know that I'll have to probably get a computer with a better Video Driver, to run windows 7, and have all the multimedia features; for some of the new gaming and video, use.

The Windows Vista Premium, on this computer would only work like a Windows Vista Basic Computer. It seems that the only difference between Windows Vista and Windows 7, is Windows 7 boots faster; and there are more improvements in its Operating System software. The advantage of upgrading the Windows Vista, from Windows XP was the cost, savings; but, I think the Windows Vista OS is easy enough to use. The web browser is already a Beta, web browser; and I can upload or install all the latest software. It is hard to compare older, to newer OS software; but, most of the time the newer OS software has more new features, and sometimes there are some software features that you liked, that might have been only on the older OS software.

Windows Vista is fun to use; and faster than Windows XP. I enjoyed the new Gadgets, and the new Beta web browser that came with Windows Vista. So far since I used Windows Vista, I never had a computer virus.  Windows Vista computers and newer OS now use some applications that are made to be used for HDTV, and high speed Internet access. I think Windows 7, will probably be like Windows Vista; that needs so many new software updates.

Windows Vista Laptop
Mood:  happy
Topic: Windows Vista Laptop

Microsoft is ending Windows XP support and Windows XP is now being discontinued. I still have Windows Vista Home Premium that I installed on my Windows XP laptop computer, and it updates itself very often. I installed a Windows Vista compatible Print Shop on my computer, and I use Open Office 2.0 for it. It was worth the RAM memory upgrade and new hard drive, that I needed to run Windows Vista on my computer; because, the Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7, Beta browser works fast and it's using the latest software.

Newer DOS Computers
Mood:  not sure
Topic: Future Computers

Computer using Disk Operation Systems, keep on getting bigger and better newer versions every so many years; such as the new Windows Vista. Many of the computers today have over 2 Gig CPU processors, and over 100 Gig Hard Drives and can run Multimedia and HD TV; and can also large multi CD or DVD programs installed on them. So, I think the biggest improvement to make the newer computers of the future able to run faster and better, is to have them built with the same similar CPU sizes and Hard Drive sizes built in them; but to have newer future computers that are able to use increased the RAM capacity beyond 2gb so they can be even more quicker. Maybe they'll have 4gb, 6gb, 10gb or even more RAM, someday; and then they will be many more times faster than the computers built today, are.

Vista RAM Memory
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Vista Ram Memory

My Pentium 4, 2Gb CPU, 512Mb laptop originally was installed with Windows XP. I added 256Mb more memory to make the laptop faster; to run Windows Vista Home Premium, on it. I put Windows Vista on a new hard drive, when I installed it on the laptop, and the computer runs like brand new with the new hard drive. I now replaced the 256Mb RAM memory with another 512Mb Ram memory; that is high quality, low density Ram memory like the original 512Mb Ram memory that came with the computer. Then, I went to crucial.com; to check the RAM memory, and it said that According to our scan, your system already has the maximum amount of memory installed, with is 1Gb or 1024Mb of total Ram memory. My laptop computer now has the amount of RAM that is recommended for Windows Vista Home Premium. More RAM memory makes the computer faster, helps save battery power, and makes the internet work faster.

I saved the old 40Gb hard drive that was on my laptop computer, and I replaced the hard drive with Windows Vista with the original hard drive with Windows XP that has 1.55Gb of Windows XP; plus around 25Gb of other programs that I put on it, so that the Windows Vista hard drive would have more hard drive free space. The windows XP was defragmented, and it took 11 minutes to get all the program to finish installing on the computer, when I turned the computer on, using 756Mb of RAM memory; but now it only takes 8 minutes to start up the computer, using 1024Mb of Ram memory; that's 3 minutes faster. I also changed the low power stand by setting; from 10 minutes, to 20 minutes. The RAM in your laptop is the heart and soul of the performance of your computer.

My XP/Vista Laptop Computer
Mood:  special
Topic: XP/Vista Laptop

I have been using Windows Vista Home Premium that I installed on my laptop computer around a 5 months ago, and I back up the system to a CD disk when it says to do it. The Windows Vista's Windows Updates, updated it's itself with over 70 updates, so far. I use Norton Anti Virus Vista ready with it and it works good and doesn't slow down the computer. The 768 MB RAM memory that I added to the Pentium 4 CPU 2GHz laptop computer, never had a low memory error.

I still use the original Windows XP program that was on the laptop computer, that I installed on another hard drive; for the same computer. I replace the hard drive with Windows Vista, with the hard drive with Windows XP for the laptop; when I use software programs that I saved on the hard drive on Windows XP, because I have so much hard drive space to use:; and because the Standard Video Graphics is all that is required for Windows XP.

Both of the hard drives are 40 Gig's each; and the Windows Vista hard drive will eventually be used more, because Windows vista was made to replace windows XP. I might need a bigger hard drive to use for the laptop computer if there are newer software programs that only can be installed Windows Vista; but I have 17.5 GB of freespace of 37.5 GB still left on the hard drive.

I think, maybe when a newer Operating System replaces Windows Vista; I'll wait until there is a few or no more program software available for Windows Vista, because there all made for the Operating System that replaces it, then I'll buy a new computer that has that Operating System's software already preinstalled on it and ready to use.

Making Windows Vista upgrade Faster
Mood:  bright
Topic: Faster Windows Vista

After, I upgraded my Windows XP laptop computer to Windows Vista, using Windows Vista Home Premium update, software. I didn't need the old XP Files; so I removed the (Windows.Old) file, from my computer. I recovered around 1.6 Gig of hard drive space after I removed the old XP Files in windows.old, and the computer seems to work faster. I clicked on the My Computer from the menu, then clicked on the Hard Drive icon, when it opened I highlighted it and right clicked it, and pressed delete. If you remove the windows.old file; Windows XP and Windows XP SP2, must be reinstalled if you want to install Windows Vista with Windows XP features.

Another way to remove the Windows XP; old file, is to Click Start, and select All Programs, select Accessories, click System Tools, click Disc Cleanup icon, select Files from all users on this computer, then select the delete from the drive that contains your old installation, and the Disc Cleanup Utility will remove it.

After I had the computer running in all Windows Vista, I turned on the Windows Vista Automatic Update; it will download around 36 file updates so it will take a long time to download. To get to the computer Windows Updates, click Start Up, click Welcome Center, click View Computer Details, then click the Windows Update link.

I removed some of the Gizmos that I added to Windows Vista; and kept only the ones that I liked the most, so the Windows Vista program would start up faster.

I am going to Disk Defragment the computers Hard Drive; by clicking Start Up, clicking Accessories, and then clicking Disk Defragmenter. Many of the Windows Vista's accessories like Notepad, Paint, Sound Recorder, Windows Explorer and WordPad are also on the accessories link, from the main Windows Vista menu.

Then, I'm going to create Back Up copies of my files and folders on my computer, by clicking Start Up, clicking the System and Maintenance icon, under the Restore Center icon click Back Up Your Computer, then click the Back Up Files icon; to save it to a CD disk.

From the Windows Vista Welcome Center, you can click View Computer Details, click the Performance link, click Advanced Tools, and click Reliability and Performance Monitor to show the graphs of the CPU, Disk, Network and the Memory. My memory on my laptop computer can use up  to 1 Gig of memory; its now using 49% of its memory with the amount of memory it has presently installed to run Windows Vista; so, I should upgrade it, to make the computer faster. You can click Open Disk Clean Up to see how much Disk Space space you can free up on your computer, by deleting different files.

Windows Vista Home Premium is around a 23.2 Gig program, but it is the newest Windows Disk Operating System. My laptop computer that I used to upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium is a Pentium 4, 200 GHz CPU,and has only 768 Gigs of RAM memory installed, and a 40 GB hard drive; but, it is working good, and better than it used to; since, I installed the computer System Updates, removed the Windows.Old file, and then Defragmented the hard drive.

MS XP-Vista 2007
Mood:  surprised
Topic: Vista and XP in 2007

I bought another hard drive and a caddy for my Laptop, that I upgraded to Windows Vista Premium. On the new hard drive I used the original Laptop installation disks for Windows XP. The Windows XP, DVD player plays good, and I don't need to get a 64 MB video driver, that is required for the Windows Vista Media Center.

Later, I Reinstalled Windows XP again on to the old Hard Drive and I replaced with the new Hard Drive with windows Vista reinstalled, and they both are working good; because, the new hard drive is quieter, so it runs Windows Vista Home premium, much better.

Windows Vista Home Premium seems to have a brighter and clearer screen display; and, the computer runs faster than Windows XP.

Now, I have two 40GB hard drives, that's like having an 80 GB hard drive for the Laptop computer to use.

I can keep a flash memory driver in the USB port, to save transfer my work to each hard drive; from the Laptop computer, or use a floppy drive disk.

Windows XP runs good with the 768 MB RAM that I installed for Windows Vista. Windows XP seem like a very modernized version operating system, that still can work with many of the older versions of Microsoft programs. But, Windows Vista seems to be designed to work more into the future, with its many advanced new software programs, high definition TV, photography studio, virtual speech computer command voice recognition program, and many new auto run task scheduler programs.

My new Windows Vista Upgraded Computer
Mood:  happy
Topic: Vista and the Computer

I finally bought Windows Vista Home Premium, that is recommended for a personal home computer. I installed it on a Laptop that was a Pentium 4, 200 GHz CPU. It passed every Windows Vista compatibility test and needed no device driver upgrades; but the RAM was only 256 MB, so I upgraded it by adding a 512 MB RAM chip, that made it 756 MB RAM.

The Laptop that I used also had a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, already.

The Laptop originally had Windows XP on it, and I first installed  with SP2, so I could run Windows Vista upgrade with Windows XP; but, I couldn't get the sound card to work after it was installed.

Then I installed Windows Vista, again; but I installed it using the upgrade with all Windows Vista version, and the sound card worked.

I checked the device sound card, and the device video card  that were now using the standard Microsoft device boots for upgrades; and they were already the best upgrades available for them.

I got the computer on the internet, with the Ethernet, and also by using a Windows Vista compatible Wireless PC card. I made a Back Up and Restore disk of the files and folders using the Vista backup, version. Then, I installed Microsoft Live All IN One Virus Scanner on it, and  I made a Back Up and Restore disk of the files and folders, using Windows One Care version, and it slowed the computer down and made the hard drive keep running, without using any program or software applications, so then I turned the computer off. When I turned The computer back on again, I got a error message that said, that Smart Drive, hard drive 0 failure prediction message. I then deleted Microsoft Live All IN One Virus Scanner and tried to reinstall it but I got a corrupt file installation message, when I reinstalled it. So, I tried to reinstall it again then I clicked the Cancel install icon button; and I got a Microsoft Live All IN One Virus Scanner message that said,; Virus scanner has to fix computer problem before uninstalling software and must then reboot, and it did and after the computer rebooted it gave no - Smart Drive  0 failure prediction message; and the computer operating system was running fast again, and the hard drive worked normal again. I think the hard drive error was caused because the Windows Vista Premium Upgrade software, installs over the old windows operating system and saves some old files and stores the in a folder on the hard drive.

I shut down the computer, and had no Smart Drive error message when I turned it on again and Windows Vista started running, so then I tried to install Microsoft Live All IN One Virus Scanner for the last time, and it worked; but I didn't use the Microsoft Live All IN One Virus Scanners version of Back Up and Restore anymore. I was also able to fix the hard drive; smart drive error once when it happened again, by re installing Windows 98 Version operating system on the computer. Then I clicked on the Free Hard Drive Space, link in Windows 98, an clicked on the link to compress the file; and, then I reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium upgrade, again on thr computer.  I might change my virus scanner to Norton Antivirus 2008 to use as my Windows Vista virus scanner, because it's Windows Vista ready, and I installed a new hard drive with Windows Vista reinstalled on it.

I had to down load the new Vista compatible device drivers for the internet PC card and for the Vista compatible printer, too so they would run on Windows Vista.

The windows Vista Media Center doesn't fully work on the Laptop computer, because I don't have a optional FM tuner card, and a optional analog or digital TV tuner card installed in the Laptop.

The Laptops experience score is: Processor, calculations per second, subscore 3.1; RAM Memory: memory operations per second, 3.9; Primary hard disk, disk transfer rate 3.4; and the Graphics, and Gaming graphics is only 1.0, because the graphics card I have is not the latest Video graphics card required for Windows Vista.

So, the Laptops rating is 1.0; which is the bench mark total for Windows Vista.

I played the Vista games, Chess Titans game 4 times and I won twice, drawed once, and lost once; at the computer beginners level. There are more play against the computer games called solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Purple Place, Mine Sweeper Inkball, Free Cell, Hearts and Mahjong Titans.

Windows Vista Home Premium also has speech recognition, that can type in word pad, and open different programs and close them; a shut down the computer, using a microphone. There is a Narrator that can read aloud the text on the screen.

The Windows Vista Desktop has a side screen, that holds gadgets such as stocks or weather, and you can add and change them from a menu display, or download more online.

On Windows Vista my DVD Video player doesn't play as good as it did on Windows XP, unless I upgrade to the latest video card; and if I did upgrade it, I would probably upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate, also. The Laptop I used is fully Windows Vista compatible, but not fully Windows Vista Premium compatible.

A Laptop computer is lighter an uses batteries, but Desktop computers are larger and more powerful; and easier to upgrade. I am happy with Windows Vista because it is easy to use, and has so many good programs and new features.
